Adapting to innovation

Welcome back weary traveler.

I, your humble MC of poetry (possibly more than that) come bearing the gift of words.

For once, this cheeky little blog will be less melancholic despondency and both retrospective and introspective.

I have been thinking about adaptation and innovation when it comes to all things creative, whatever that is to you, the reader of my ramblings.

I've noticed posts over social media where artists from a few different disciplines continuing the idea

"Play the game or be played" I've seen this idea floating around as well but as someone who struggles with this concept, why play the game when you can try to make your own rules?

We could go down the rabbit hole of hustle culture, nose to the grindstone mentality and the problem with gatekeeping but that's flogging a dead horse at this point.

But criticise someone else's conceptualising of the state of independent artistry is not what I am trying to do for a change.

Back to adaptation and innovation.

We find ourselves in an industry based on luck and hopefulness, hard work plays an important role but we have touched on this topic in the past, come for me if you wish.

We hear plenty about algorithmic adaptation and AI atmosphere, almost always avoiding answering anything altruistically. Is the innovation worth the time and the effort to break out of the comfortability of what has been your slipstream of success, however you define success as?

Changing things is always a risk but if you are an independent entity then doesn't that allow for much more freedom on your part?

Let's take it from a Vibe Union perspective shall we.

Obviously for the well versed, we have our poetry as the main example. Not saying we are innovators by any means but since we started putting on a night it is unlike any other poetry night in Melbourne I have seen (Make your own decision whether good or bad).

Despite a majority of people in the poetry scene never hearing of Radio Talk, we have had amazing turnouts and sign ups for months now.

Yes, more poetry anecdotes, sue me.

I do think though plenty of creatives are either unable to innovate themselves to some degree or are waiting for someone else to take the risk to evaluate their own choices. This is rich coming from the autistic boy who is a walking anxiety billboard when certain things don't go to plan, but here we are.

It's not just poetry, other things are hoping to be planned in the future, innovating what we do as well as adapting the things we already have accomplished so keep watching this space because as we all say: "Big Things Coming."

Has this been worth the read and have I managed to stick to my point?

Give us money if you think I have done a good job please

xoxo
